Many large wind development companies work in multiple states across the US and are interested in renewable energy policy issues at the state, regional, and national level. In 2007, there was an existing national wind industry group and some regional organizations, but no such group existed for New England.
Recognizing the need for a new association that could advocate for and drive sustainable renewable energy policy development in New England, CLF Ventures worked with CLF and an existing network of renewable energy developers to coordinate and facilitate the formation of a new renewable energy industry group for the Northeast region. Called Renewable Energy New England (RENEW), the group membership includes regional environmental organizations as well as energy developers.
CLF Ventures worked with a group of existing interested parties and recruited additional organizations to form a Board of Directors. We then worked with the Board to provide organizational planning assistance, including researching and filing legal documents to formally create the new organization. CLF Ventures also worked with the Board of Directors to hire an Executive Director and hand off the final steps of the formal launch.
RENEW has now been in existence for several years and is operating on its own. The initial focus has been on wind energy, with a Board of Directors made up of wind energy developers. For more information, visit the RENEW website at http://renew-ne.org/.
Organizational Development
CLF Ventures coordinated development of the articles of incorporation and secured 501(c) 3 status. We also assisted in drafting a mission statement and developing by-laws and other governance documents. CLF Ventures coordinated initial recruitment of the Board of Directors and staff, including assistance with hiring RENEW’s first Executive Director.
