Bill Coleman, Chief Executive Officer

    Bill joined CLF Ventures as Chief Executive Officer in March 2004. He has a long track record as a change agent and has led a variety of large private and public sector organizations in the investment management, real estate, air transportation, environmental/conservation, financial and human services/health care markets.

    Before joining CLF Ventures, Bill worked as an independent consultant on a range of environmental initiatives, including an affiliation with Blue Wave Strategies. From 1998-2002, Bill served as President and CEO of Hancock Natural Resources Group, Inc., a global timberland and farmland investment management subsidiary of John Hancock Financial Services. Before Hancock, Bill was co-founder and President of Marketplace Development, Inc.; President of Leggat McCall Properties Management; Managing Director in the public finance office of Smith, Barney, Harris, Upham & Co., which financed infrastructure projects; and, from 1979-1987, Director of Aviation for Logan Airport and Hanscom Field.

    Bill has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Harvard University. He is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Student Conservation Association.
Jo Anne Shatkin, Ph.D., Managing Director

    Jo Anne Shatkin, Ph.D. joined CLF Ventures in August 2007. As Managing Director, she provides technical and strategic expertise on projects and manages the day-to-day operations of CLF Ventures. Dr. Shatkin is a recognized expert in strategic environmental initiatives, human health risk assessment, technical communications, and environmental aspects of nanotechnology.

    Prior to joining Ventures, Jo Anne managed a human health risk assessment and nanotechnology practice for The Cadmus Group. She brings a wealth of experience in research and application of quantitative human health risk assessment for site redevelopment and remediation; drinking water and air quality, and environmental evaluations of emerging contaminants. Her specialty is the application and communication of innovative science-informed analysis to address complex emerging issues affecting businesses and communities. Dr Shatkin has been an active member of the Society for Risk Analysis since 1989, and recently founded the Emerging Nanoscale Materials Specialty Group of the Society for Risk Analysis.

    She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Science and Policy in 1994 and her MA in Risk Management and Technology Assessment, both from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts and possesses a Bachelor of Science degree from Worcester Polytechnic University in Biology and Biotechnology. She is a research fellow of the George Perkins Marsh Institute at Clark University.

Erin Cooke, Environmental Insurance Agency Director and Project Specialist

    Erin is the Director of the Environmental Insurance Agency, a for-profit subsidiary of CLF Ventures. In this capacity, she manages the operations of the Agency and plays a key role in strategizing the ongoing development of the Agency and its mission. Serving as the Ventures Project Specialist, Erin provides project guidance and support through policy research, strategy development and technical analysis. Erin also manages our clients' websites.


    Prior to coming to CLF Ventures, Erin worked for a Utah non-profit group to develop and implement a ski area energy efficiency and resource management strategy and an auditing tool to track that initiative. Erin also consulted for the National Park Service, Goddard Institute of Space Studies, and New York City Economic Development Corporation. Erin received her BA in Business Management and BS in Natural Resource Studies from the University of Massachusetts and MPA in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University.

Paul Calzada , Staff Assistant

    As the staff assistant Paul is responsible for supporting the Ventures group by doing research, scheduling events and appointments, and organizing project time and expenses.

    Paul has a bachelor’s degree in Literature from the California Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He most recently worked for the Environmental Careers Organization and for Normandeau Associates, an environmental consulting company in New Hampshire. His other experiences include teaching English in Ghana as a Peace Corps Volunteer and teaching English at a Japanese university for three years.
Jasmine Tanguay, Project Manager and Community Involvement Specialist
    Jasmine is a Project Manager and Community Involvement Specialist at CLF Ventures. In this role, she focuses on stakeholder management, which is a major deliverable for many of our clients. She also works on project development and implementation, and strategic planning. Prior to coming to CLF Ventures, Jasmine was a Research Assistant at the George Perkins Marsh Institute (Worcester, Massachusetts) and the Social and Environmental Research Institute (Greenfield, Massachusetts).
    Jasmine received her BA from College of the Atlantic where she majored in Human Ecology. She received a Masters Degree from the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University, where she studied resource geography, risk analysis, and environmental management.
David Thayer, Project Analyst
    David joins CLF Ventures as a Project Analyst, providing policy analysis, strategy development and implementation support for clients and partners.
    Prior to joining CLF Ventures, David was an Analyst at the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City in Boston, where he executed market research and economic analysis to support inner-city policy and a strategic consulting practice. David has also served as a Policy Research Consultant at American Farmland Trust in Saratoga Springs, NY and as a Research Intern at the International Institute for Sustainable Development in Geneva, Switzerland. David holds a B.A from Skidmore College, where he graduated summa cum laude with honors in Government.
Dano Weisbord, Project Manager
    Dano Weisbord is a Project Manager for CLF Ventures where he helps clients with stakeholder outreach, project development and implementation, and strategic planning, particularly on projects that seek to site new assets or close and reuse facilities. As a CLF Environmental Policy Fellow in 2000, Dano co-authored CLF's Community Rules: A New England Guide to Smart Growth Strategies guidebook.
    Prior to coming to CLF, Dano worked independent consultant facilitating multi-stakeholder planning meetings for non-profit, corporate and government clients and as an internal consultant a human services provider in Philadelphia. Dano holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Industrial Design and an MA from Tufts University in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning.
